When Will It Rain

When Will It Rain?

I wrote this after hearing reports of California droughts and wildfires, the countdown before Cape Town, South Africa running out of drinking water and the accelerated shrinking of the Dead Sea. I started thinking about the results of water shortages on human food industries, especially farming….

Verse 1

My mouth tastes of desert sand

Golden fields destroyed by human hands

Flowing rivers, ‘til we drank them dry

Is it too late to be terrified?

Has our chance gone by?

Pre-Chorus

Ten more species went extinct today

Sun is cooking the ozone away

Famine spreads when dry crops die

I’m squinting at a cloudless sky…  again

Chorus

oh-o-oh, oh-o-oh, When will it rain?

oh-o-oh, oh-o-oh, When will it rain?

When will it rain? When will it rain?

Verse 2

We paved over paradise

Overdosed on plastic and pesticide

Dumped our trash, fouled our own bed

Is it too late for false regret?

Will we reverse the effect?

Pre-Chorus

Ten more species went extinct today

Sun is cooking the ozone away

Famine spreads when dry crops die

I’m squinting at a cloudless sky…  again

Chorus

oh-o-oh, oh-o-oh, When will it rain?

oh-o-oh, oh-o-oh, When will it rain?

When will it rain? When will it rain?

Bridge

An inconvenient truth we’d rather deny

We broke the climate, drained the well dry

Chorus

oh-o-oh, oh-o-oh, When will it rain?

oh-o-oh, oh-o-oh, When will it rain?

When will it rain? When will it rain?

When will it rain?
